John McCain speaks exclusively with Politico's Mike Allen and Jonathan Martin.
Thank you tarantula67 and rationalpsychic! I often feel like I am the only sane one in a world gone crazy.

Oh, vederchi and saucy, if this bit with McCain not knowing that he owns 7 homes doesn't strike you as a problem for him and a case of hideous excess then how are we going to convince you that a lack of health insurance by Americans is a MAJOR problem?! This from a summary of last year's US Census info: "A report by the US Census Bureau this week shows that household income is up, the poverty rate is slightly down for the first time this decade, but the number of people without health insurance went up by 0.5 per cent to reach 47 million in 2006."

How is a guy with several homes, one of which is a condo worth $4.66 million, going to take people's health care difficulties seriously? I am angry and incredulous.

Thousands of Americans own more than one home and many have investment properties. That's what I love about America--we have the freedom to choose, to make our own decisions and to follow our dreams and aspirations. We should be glad with the achievements of our American brothers and sisters. There's nothing wrong with working hard and becoming successful. Just remember that, to whom much is given, much is required.

It's not a republican vs democrat thing. I'm not sure if you noticed but lots of people out there are having hard times financially. folks are losing their homes. so when you ask someone running for President, someone who is going to set a tax policy, to define "rich" or ask them "how many houses do you own?" and they can't really answer the questions, I tend to think THAT's A PROBLEM.

WHY? Not because they're rich. Good for them. But because they seem to be so wealthy that they've lost touch of regular middle class people. I am looking for someone in the White House who understands the issues of middle class people. Of working people. Of people who can't fall back onto house number #4 or #5 if houses 1 2 or 3 don't work out.

To me, this is becoming less a political party issue but really more a class issue. I want politicians who really GET what being working or middle class is all about.

John Kerry didn't know that the SUV's that he was riding around in belonged to him. So what, if John McCain didn't know how many houses he owned. His wife is very wealthy and some may be in his name and some may be in her name. That may be why he was hesitant to answer. The NEWS media always tries to insinuate that being wealthy is something to be suspicious of. Of course only if you are a Republican not if you are a Democrat.

Why didn't the questioner ask incredulously: "You don't know how many houses you have?! Obama should have used it in his ad
