Please excuse the lip sync - it's a problem with Ovi’s flash video conversion - I hope they can get it sorted out soon.

"The next person to inspire me": Mrs Patel from our local Post Office, about to be closed down by incompetence and greed in government and the privatised Post Office. After 35 years of service to our community - what does she get? An OBE? No. Termination.

The Government are currently engaged in a disgraceful act of cultural vandalism. I believe that in 10-20 years - and beyond - they will be remembered for two things: The Iraq War, and the loss of the Post Offices.

For the sake of a mere £200m per year, they are closing the last remaining centres of community in thousands of towns, villages and urban neighbourhoods. This is a brief interview with Mrs Patel, who has run our Post Office for 35 years. Two posts offices within half a mile of here are closing. Seven in our Borough. (and of course thousands throughout the country.) We have a higher density of older and disabled people in this ward than anywhere else in the borough - people who will lose vital services.

That was a good interview Rupert. What a disgrace our government is. Can't say we blame you for leaving this beautiful country. Good luck with everything

thanks, pepa. i was reading a Harpers article this week where an American journalist was asserting that quality of life was better in Europe than the US. maybe in some parts of Europe. the parts that people like Sarkozy are trying to destroy. certainly in the UK, where we aspire to the American dream and reject European identity, everything is sacrificed in the name of productization and profit. glad i'm off to the Canadian wilderness :)

This is the benefit to movlogging. Having that camera at the ready wherever you may be is invaluable. Sad story but a great vid.
