Only because I've stumbled on two that are awesome. They are the (discontinued) Alesis Bitrman and Philtre. I think these were marketed as guitar effects - and they're not quality at all for guitar. But for studio effects, they excel and are super versatile. They also sound better than any plugins I have that propose to do the same thing. I still love the Sonic Alienator for decimation, but the Bitrman adds in a bi-phase, overdrive, and compressor, and you can set the order of the signal flow. Combined they make for something different and cool. This demo is using the Philtre, a multi-band resonant modulatable filter. I am using the tempo-sync'd pattern program, where it generates a filter sequence based on a tap tempo and tempo sensing circuit. I switch between high pass 8-pole (!), band pass, band reject, and low pass (2-pole and 8-pole). I also reset to new patterns and switch off between dry signal and levels of filtration. The digital resonance generates some crazy low end tones from my basic XBase drum beat (from an earlier demo). It moves air.

<media:group>

</media:group>
PhiltreBeat

I've been...accepting...digital effects lately. It moves air.
<media:keywords>Synth,drum,machine,jomox,analog,filter,sequence,Alesis,XBase09SE,resonant,ModFX,multi-band,modulated</media:keywords>

Oakley TM3030 First Sequence Test

Just got the TM3030 'bassline' going - here's a short sample completely dry and unaffected, but well on the way.

<media:group>

</media:group>
Oakley TM3030 First Sequence Test

Just got the TM3030 'bassline' going - here's a short sample completely dry and unaffected, but well on the way.
<media:keywords>303,Synth,analog,oakley,bassline,TM3030</media:keywords>

JP8- The Shining Main Titles

A friend of mine wanted to know if I could recreate Wendy Carlos' opening tones for The Shining "Main Titles" - this is what I came up with. There are eight different patches that I created - each goes for a couple of seconds on Poly, and then I set it for Dual with both upper and lower outputs on the same patch for a stacked four-voice stereo. Some of these sounds do well in both, while some just love the stacking. The slight differences in tuning over two sets of four voices, combined with the fact that the LFO's don't sync between 'stacks', creates a huge stereo field. I tried to play similar things on each pass (poly vs. dual) and also tried to balance the volumes afterward (as the dual pass was generally hotter). Yes, the JP is a little more difficult to play with "just four voices", but having owned the PEK for so long, I am used to that... I start out with a real basic patch, but each one is sufficiently different to hopefully maintain 'interest'.

<media:group>

</media:group>
Jupiter 8 Poly Vs. The move (for me) from four hybrid voices (PEK) to eight fully analog voices is such a rewarding one. Check this clip. The Jupiter's arpeggiator is engaged with a fairly simple sound. I lodge in hold position and go two hands on the filter section to mod the sounds, with occasional alterations to VCA envelope as well. There are even parts where it sounds like Pac-Man eating a Power Pill. The way the sliders work is so much more natural to me than knobs. Plus, I can see where they're all at before I change them - can't do it on the PEK. The envelopes are analog too, so the alterations have a much more organic feel. Sorry it's a static Fminor7 chord - that doesn't change. In fact, I never touch the keyboard at all in this demo. But if you want to hear a good example of the possibilities of the filters (both 12dB/oct and 24dB/oct resonant low-pass) - here ya go.

<media:group>

</media:group>
Jupiter-8 Demo - Arpeggiator Madness

I just got a JP-8 and am crazy about it. I wanted to get an idea of how good it worked, so I plugged my Lentz SSL into my Booker V12MA amp, stuck the mic there, and cranked up. I got some great sounds, but mostly just jamming. While I was listening back, I turned on my Lexicon 200 reverb and put it into the mix. Put the send on pre-fader, put the Lex on solo and then started messing with the 'Infinite Reverb' feature. Basically, it takes a basic chamber program and lets you sample a bit in and then make it reverberate for an infinite amount of time, without sounding overly loopy. What you hear here is me turning on and off the IR to add and subtract guitar tones to the wash of sound. This was my first go, a short piece that builds and lets go. Instant Eno!

<media:group>

</media:group>
Infinite Reverb (Short Example)

I got a new mic today - a Sennheiser e609s, which is great at what it says it's great at - micing guitar speakers.
