This is Phil Read racing against Martin Stamatis at the 2008 Willowbank Winternationals.

With amazing weather conditions, both cars hurtled off the line before the supercharger belts on both cars departed. However Stamatis' belt stayed on longer for his 4.7 second win.

The onboard footage looking at the engine is from the Stamatis machine, but no video data was recorded on Read's dragster from the violent tyre shake he experienced on the run.

This is video footage of Phil Read's new Australian Top Fuel National Record which was reset to 4.563 seconds by the Jim Read Racing team at the 2008 Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway.

His historical Friday night qualifying run was the quickest time ever recorded in Australia by an Australian, and the 4.563 pass @ 320.28 mph was then backed up for the record in Saturday's eliminations where the team reset a new Aussie T/F National ET record when Phil ran 4.596 seconds at 317.13 mph.

The new record now set to 4.563 seconds broke the previous record which was held by American racer Scott Kalitta which he reset in 2006 to 4.565 seconds.

Martin Stamatis' 4.577 top qualifying pass at WSID 02 May 2008

This is Martin Stamatis' second top fuel qualifying run at the 2008 Snap-On Nitro Champs held at WSID over the May 2 and 3 weekend. The run, which was a great 4.577 second pass top qualified the team.

The video also includes on-board footage of what the run was like looking forwards from the inside of the cockpit.

Mark Sheehan and his team were out trying to get the final stages of their nitro funny car licensing completed at the Perth Motorplex on the 12th March 2008.

On the first pass for the day, the car smoked the tyres almost instantly, then some fine adjustments were made to try and cater for the hot conditions for the second pass.

The car looked to be on a great run this time around getting to the 60' with a .972 short time, followed by a lift before the 330' in 2.59, but when Sheehan had a pedal and got back onto it, then KABOOM!

The Mustang body totally blew off the chassis and into the air and lifted the back end of car at least a metre off the ground before a second bounce lifted it up and away again. Then with some great steering, Sheehan managed to tame his ride back to earth, and thankfully escaped the terrifying incident unharmed.

We wish Sheehan and his team all the best for their next nitro outing.

The video includes on-board footage taken from the right hand front suspension's control arm, and looks backwards down the side and to the rear of the car.
