Aaron Valdez is a film-video artist who grew up in Texas and is currently residing in Michigan. For a short period, he lived in Iowa. During his internment here, he created a series of 24 fantastic videos and called the project Blandlands.

His description of the videos is the following: “boring landscapes. iowa. november 2006 - april 2007″

I stopped liking hanging out in bars when I was in my early 30’s. I just don’t like being in them any more. My wife asked me tonight to go out with her after work to hang out with some of her co-workers.

It wasn’t fun. The best I could do was try out my new camera. Not the best footage but it kept me occupied.

P.S. The nachos tasted like shit and I’m pretty sure I’m going to get food poisoning from them.

On June 11th, 2008, the Cedar River broke it’s banks in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and cause the worst disaster this city has ever known. Almost five and half months later, the city is finally cleaning up the flood damaged homes. This was the first house to be demolished. Hopefully this marks a new future for the city.

I titled the video “With Love And Care” because it was obvious that this small non-descript house was taken down with the care and respect it deserved. Watch and you’ll understand what I mean.
